Another magnitude 7.x earthquake hits us

According to the PHIVOLCS, the strength of the earthquake that hit us yesterday was comparable to that of 30 atomic bombs.

It’s very strong. Lives and properties, including historic structures, were lost to that particular earthquake. While we live far from the epicenter, we live close enough to have felt it.

It’s at times like these when people remember God. But it can only be so sad because they’d remember him as a punisher. They’ll want to pray to Him to “appease” Him, so to speak. As if He is a wrathful one, like the gods of old.

So-called religious leaders will call to people to repent because “God is angry and He is punishing the wicked” echoing those times from eons ago when people would say “The gods are angry!” whenever something unusual and wrong happens.

Why can’t people just believe what science says? That the plates of the Earth move causing what we feel as earthquakes?

A lot of time, money and effort has been spent doing research on these things. People wanted to understand how these things happen and now we do.

Or even the Bible itself? Ecclesiastes 9:11-12 says,

“The race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favor to men of skill; but time and chance happens to them all.

“For man knows not his time: as the fishes that are taken in an evil net, and as the birds that are caught in the snare; so are men snared in an evil time, when it falls suddenly upon them.”

Wrong things can happen to anyone anytime. Even the writers of the Bible acknowledge that fact. King Solomon of Israel wrote this down for us.

Why can’t people know that?

God is capable of doing something so trivial. If He can create all the beautiful world we live in, He is more than capable of moving a small bit of it.

But He is a loving God. Why can’t people understand that?

Why do people always look for someone, anyone to blame?
