I am so hatin’ somethin’…
I still need some stuff to get the installation done…
I’ma have to get it tomorrow and be done with the switch…
I’ve decided
This ain’t too awesome no more. These virus attacks can get through and I’m hatin’ it. Havin’ ‘em in my system has never been awesome and I just did a really very stupid thing yesterday. I actually activated a worm which was staying silently in my external HDD…
So, after one almost sleepless night and some hours of thought and askin’ a few people…
I’ve decided to do a switch.
I’m some sort of a risk-taker anyway. So why not take it higher? Well, it’s just a matter of switching OS’s. I’m fed up with my Microsoft XP getting viruses once in a while a getting my data in danger. I’ve searched a few. On how to get through password protected windows and then switched keywords… I found this: Swapping Windows for Linux.
Right now I’m downloading EasyPeasy and it’s on 43.3%. Download’s rather fast cuz of the download accelerator.
I know I’ma have to download some apps – a lot actually. And get myself used with the OS but I’ma get through. Anyway, Windows XP was never built for Eee PC’s.
Right now, I’ma have to get some replacements. OSalt will always be there.
My iTunes! And the hits… And the playlists… I was loving iTunes 8 and its visuals…
Oh, and… This is when I can consider some Wine…
I’LL BE DAMNED!
New accounts…
I just wanna take note of these…
I told myself I ain’t gon be makin’ accounts on these sites unless I get my content to add to them. Right now I broke that one. I kinda remembered usernames. I told myself I gotta make an account before my usernames are taken…
So, I made accounts on Flickr and DeviantART…
The thing with them right now is that they ain’t gon have more content other than my profile. It’s just a matter of getting my usernames reserved.
On human-avian hybrids
As I was checking out my site stats today, I kinda found out that a lot of searches go for this topic. So, I did a li’l research…
Most of us, if not all, are wondering if it is possible to have these kinds of creatures. Various opinions from the web can be found on this topic. WikiAnswers.com has these. I, imho, have this to say:
My spiritual side tells me that it is not possible as such creatures wasn’t one of the things God created. But neither are we so sure of that. We can never say that we have a complete record of human history. We cannot erase the possibility that human-avian hybrids, they may have had a different name then if they have existed, existed before the time of man. Well, they will not be called human-avian hybrids if man hasn’t existed yet. As for referrence to the Bible, it does not usually enumerate every creature there is. Instead, the Bible just says, “every living being on the land”, “every bird that flies in the skies” or something like those.
On the scientific side, the first answer on wiki is rather curious.
No, the genetic make up of each species DNA are completely different so that it is not compatible for combination. Not to mention the obvious ethical and moral parameters that would be violated.
Though, I won’t really totally trust the items from WikiAnswers. Not to mention the typos…
I have once read an article on human-bovine hybrids. (Too bad I forgot to note the url. I wonder if there is a link somewhere in this blog.) They have stated that they were able to successfully make a living 32-cell human-bovine, that would be cows, hybrids. (I am actually wondering why they chose cows.) It is living in a sense that those cells are, literally, alive. But the thing is that the creature can not yet thrive.
To stay on topic…
So far, I haven’t found items or articles, scientific ones, that cater to these creatures. Most kinds of human-avian hybrids that I’ve found are on viruses. Viruses that infect humans, mostly on the avian flu research.
We’ll keep up…
Snake attack!!!
Oh, well, that was last night. Too bad I wasn’t there to see it… Or is it?
Anyway, I arrived at our apartment last night welcomed by a questioned that said, “Did you see the snake?” I was like, “Uh, no…? When?” The snake came around at about 9pm and that time I was busy online. They said it attacked one of the chickens owned by one of the occupants of the apartment unit next to ours. The chicken died. It was too late for it. According to one of the sorta witnesses here, the snake was some 8ft long. Kinda long… It was an I-don’t-know-what-kinda-snake-that-was.
I woke up this morning to some loud talking of the people here. It was still about the snake. They got it caught last night but they haven’t killed it. The good part was that they placed it in a sack. If they haven’t, maybe it has crawled into one of us…
Oh, they took a photo of it last night. Here:
Yeah, I know it’s a bit too dim. The camera ain’t too awesome. And the photo was taken during the night.
The more interesting part, and the reason that I want to have this posted is this:
Yeah, that. That is what has become of the snake when I arrived at our apartment this afternoon. Cooked and ready for chow! The thing is I’m one of the people who tried it! Crazy! I never really thought I can take it in but I’m kinda glad I did – in one sense. It tastes rather good! Well, it depends on how it was cooked – as always. The person who cooked the snake was the owner of the chicken that the snake killed. He knows how to cook. It was cooked with coco milk, soy sauce and other stuff to get it seasoned. Yum!
Well, here’s the funny part. While we were on it, one of my mates here talked about how it was last night. While most people will have been afraid, they actually had the guts to make fun of the poor creature – yeah, now I can add poor. They played with it! And it wasn’t dead yet – given the fact that it was still alive this morning! How did they play with it? They used it as a jump rope! I was like, Woah! Anyway, it’s now a “been there, done that”. I got to chow on some snake today. Oh, well, I can say, “I had snake for dinner tonight!”… … …
For the mean time…
I have to deal with this theme. I’m just bummed about the non-customizable header. But I am wondering why I can’t edit the title of the calendar. I used to be able to… Or is this just a bug because of some site upgrade…? More like it…
Also, why does the sidebar have to be on the left? I mean, I’m used to the navigation thingies, sidebars and the like, being in the right side. Maybe it’s just cuz I’m right handed…? Maybe…
Oh, and where is my site tagline?! Now I have to place it in the sidebar, again… I just have to have it…
Or I might have to check on other themes that could work for me better. It’s the colors… And everything else in between…
I am so loving the wind…
As the 2010 Elections Approaches
In on the news!
Got, I mean, read this news yesterday, May 11, 2009, on Yahoo!.
The Commission on Election has stated that the poll automation for the 2010 election is gonna push through.
Bids from international and local bidders, all of ‘em, have been rejected last week by the ComElec for lack of necessary documents. Despite of this, the commission doesn’t seem to be considering the idea of a partial automation. According to Chairman Jose Melo, they still have time for a full automation and they haven’t declared a failure of bidding. They will only opt for the partial automation if the winning bidder declares that it can’t be able to finish all 80,000 needed automated counting machines or ACM’s for the elections next year.
For the 2004 elections, the government has bought Php 1.2 billion worth of ACM’s from the Mega Pacific Consortium (MPC). Lawyer Romulo Macalintal has suggested to the ComElec to use the machines bought in 2004. According to him, the reliability and accuracy of these machines were never questions. The Department of Science and Technology has even certified the accuracy of these machines and that they can be used for the 2007 elections. Macalintal has suggested to the Supreme Court the use of these machines but his petition has been denied due to pending criminal cases against some ComElec officials and MPC and the Office of Solicitor general has filed a civil case against the MPC before the Makati City RTC to recover the Php 1.2 billion from the Consortium.
The Supreme Court disallowed use of these counting machines bought from the MPC in 2004 as they were “illegally procured”.
The National Security Adviser Norberto Gonzales has a different suggestion for the ComElec – the open election system (OES).
Gonzales also said that a manual election is not an option. Time is against full automation but, according to Gonzales, there is enough time for OES.
The people going for OES have also pointed out that the government can save at least Php 7 billion pesos from the Php 11.3 billion budget for full automation if the ComElec will choose OES.
The counting machines bought from the MPC have been kept at the Maxilite warehouse since 2004 and the government has been paying Php 3.9 Million for storage fees of the 1,991 ACM’s from MPC.
According to the ComElec chairman, usage of the already purchased machines is still disallowed as per Supreme Court order.
Somewhere in between the lines of this news, I can see a huge waste of resources – money, Php 12 billion pesos and the storage fees. Not that I totally know all the facts and believe in everything that is laid out in this news. But Php 1.2 billion paid Php 3.9 million to rot and deteriorate in some storage house doesn’t sound too awesome. Even a kindergarten will know how huge this amount is.
Macalintal made good sense in suggesting the usage of these already purchased machines. Even if we are to believe that there are still cases pending in the court in relation to these machines, I believe there is still some way to get the machines through. Won’t it be possible to remove or change the court order prohibiting the use of these machines? Talk of practicality and the fact that the world’s economy is on the low – and neither is the Philippines the kind of country that can afford to waste huge amounts of money. We can sometimes be practical people here once in a while. If we use these machines, we will still need some, yeah, but we will need less and will have to spend less. Since it is the Supreme Court who gave this order to disallow usage of these machines, it is also this body which has the need to come to the right senses and remove this order. Not that I am underestimating or belittling the capabilities of the courts of the Philippines but if there are really pending cases and they won’t decide to remove the order, the Php 1.2 billion spent for the machines from MPC will be put to total waste. I mean, these kinds of cases don’t get done quickly. The machines are a product of technology. New innovations come around once in a while – this is technology we are talking about. If these machines won’t be used next year, they will become obsolete, if they haven’t already as the machines were purchased 2004.If those ain’t gonna become obsolete, deterioration will be the it to render these machines useless.
Just imagine what Php 1.2 billion could’ve done if only the purchase was not done. But we can’t do anything about it now. The deal is done and all that is left to do is to make good sense of this rather huge expense.
Yes, we still have one year before the elections but if the bidding goes on like this, there ain’t gonna be time for everything. It is still on a bidding process so that would mean that the machines are not yet being built. Next up will be the set-up of these machines. Neither is this one a very easy task especially that it has been in history that the Philippines is an archipelago since a very long time ago. Also, we will have the need to train people to these machines.
Partial automation is a good option. And using the already purchased machines, emphasis on the “and”.
Going for OES can also be a good option. Full automation is actually a giant leap from the manual elections that the Philippines is used to. The OES is a system halfway between the two. Manual voting but automated canvass of votes and the precinct-level counting will remain.
And I don’t want to sound so naïve so I’m adding this. I am seeing some loophole, or something like it, in the purchase of new machines. There is one pretty good reason, good for them, that is, that the ComElec will insist on a full automation using new machines. If they will opt for a partial automation using the ready machines, no money, or more precisely, huge amount of money will be added to the stash of the damned bastards on the higher-ups of the Commission on Elections. But you can’t possibly tell me that they will be opting for brand new machines because the unused ones has been made obsolete – at least, use it even just once; that would make it less of a waste, though, it is still some waste. If they can’t go for OES, I can still see the same for the bastards.

Ants and the realization of missing something
[The title somehow sounds serious to me]
Ants, yeah, those creepy li’l crawlies I often see just anywhere. In a sense, they sorta scare me. Ants scaring me?! Jeez, ‘doesn’t sound too awesome. Thing is, I sometimes find them creeping outta my rig. Like, from in between the keyboard, the vent, the ports, just anywhere. Now I can wonder how much damage they’ve done… Also, I’ve learned that I can’t let my rig off for one straight day. Reason? The next time I open it, ants will be coming outta it. I mean more and of a sorta different breed. Like, those things were able to grow. Anyway, I’m still tryna look for someone who knows how to open gadget-thingies, clean ‘em, and get it back together like nothing has happened…
The one thing I’m missing? Java! Damn! The school year’s ‘bout to start and I haven’t done a single thing about Java. Not really that I haven’t done a single thing, I’ve got the resources I need… Just that I haven’t found some time for it. I’m kinda enjoying Python and my C++ going up higher. Then, I got introduced to this game making soft. The soft uses Lite-C for all the coding – one new language. It’s not entirely very new cuz it still is some sort of C but… I still gotta learn a few things before I can make one running program – even the simple one.
But I’m the kinda person who tries to look at the bright side on things – emphasis on “things.” The introduction I got for Lite-C is inclined to game making – it’s bundled with a game making soft anyway. That’s a good thing… So there…
I still am hoping I can start on my Java before the vacay’s over…
Oh! Almost missed this one… Perl! That is when I say I have even less resources. I only got the installer for Perl and haven’t even installed it an tried it out… Damn!
Learnin’ a language or two…
And… I even got myself to learn some Japanese…
Whew!
I’m thinking of havin’ a change of theme but the thing is, there doesn’t seem to be any other black, 2-clumn theme that looks awesome, to me, or, at least, something tolerable…
On the blog title… I just felt like changing the name “oasis” cuz of the band…

This is some petition that was sent to me:
Drop the Handle
I just remembered a li’l something from the article “How to Become a Hacker.”
There’s this one rule, or something like it, that says,
Don’t use a silly, grandiose user ID or screen name.
So…
I will now have to change my display name. At least, keep it closest to my real name.
The problem with screen names or handles deserves some amplification. Concealing your identity behind a handle is a juvenile and silly behavior characteristic of crackers, warez d00dz, and other lower life forms. Hackers don’t do this; they’re proud of what they do and want it associated with their real names. So if you have a handle, drop it. In the hacker culture it will only mark you as a loser.
Now…
